Dr Nap HoSang Donates Portable Ultrasound to UWI SODECO
Dr Nap HoSang, a UWI medical graduate, public health specialist, philanthropist and pioneer in ultrasonography, has donated a portable ultrasound machine to UWI SODECO.
A Pioneer in Ultrasonography and Public Health
Through his philanthropic work, Dr HoSang has also helped make portable ultrasound technology available for prenatal screening in remote communities in the Philippines.
Portable Ultrasound for Rehabilitation Research in Jamaica
In Jamaica, his latest contribution will support investigations underpinning rehabilitation for patients affected by stroke and other conditions that impair cognition.
The machine is housed at the UWI SODECO Clinical Centre, where a full rehabilitation programme is being developed for roll-out in the first quarter of 2027 to serve patients from UHWI and Metropolitan Kingston.
CORTEX JA: Research-Informed Rehabilitation at UWI SODECO
The programme, known as CORTEX JA, integrates research into rehabilitation and is designed to generate trial data that can inform improvements in practice. It is led by Dr Marie Williams.
The rehabilitation environment at the UWI SODECO Clinical Centre will support structured, patient-centred recovery while connecting clinical care with research.
